VKM Leads Plant it Forward workshop
We're So Excited to Announce: Plant It Forward π±
If you've been following the Vancouver Kindness Movement for a while, you know we're always looking for ways to weave kindness into everyday life. But this time, we're taking it outside literally.
We're thrilled to be hosting Plant It Forward, a youth-led initiative that brings together three things we love: creativity, community, and the planet.
So, what is it, exactly?
Plant It Forward centers around making handmade plantable cards, crafted from recycled paper and embedded with pollinator-friendly seeds. Think of it like a greeting card that doesn't end up in the recycling bin. Instead, it goes in the ground. And from there? It grows into flowers that feed bees, butterflies, and the other pollinators quietly holding our food systems together.
We know "sustainability" can sometimes feel like a big, heavy word. Like something that requires a science degree or a complete lifestyle overhaul. This project is our way of pushing back on that idea. Environmental action can start small. It can start with a piece of paper, a kind message, and a handful of seeds.
Why pollinators? Why now?
Pollinator populations have been declining at a worrying rate, and while that might feel like a far-off problem, it's deeply local. The plants in your neighbourhood, the food on your table... pollinators are quietly connected to all of it. Plant It Forward is one small way to give something back, while also opening up conversations about environmental education that actually feel accessible.
The part that gets us most excited
This is a community project. Students and neighbours, coming together to make something with their hands, share something meaningful, and leave a little more life in the world than they found. Every card carries a message of kindness, but it also carries the possibility of something growing long after it's been given away.
We can't wait to see what blooms. π
